Privacy notice
This site has no accounts, no contact form, and no analytics. The one thing it collects is the email address you enter to download a file. This page says exactly what happens to it.
What the download form collects
Report, sample, and map downloads ask for your email address first. When you press Download, the site sends your address, the name of the file, and the page you were on to a small server function. The function adds the browser identification string that your browser sends with every request, and stores the four items together as one record:
- the email address you typed, saved in lower case;
- the name of the file you asked for, such as
downloads/case-melrose_report.pdf; - the address of the page you were on, such as
/services.html; - your browser’s user-agent string, cut to its first 300 characters.
The function writes nothing else. The download starts whether or not the record reaches the server.
Why it is collected
The record lets Daniel Du know which files were downloaded and follow up about them.
Where it is stored
The record goes to a function hosted on Vercel (du-analytics.vercel.app), which writes it to a
database set up for Daniel Du (a Supabase database). The table can be read or written only with a
private service key held by the site owner. It is not shown on this site.
Cookies, analytics, and tracking
This site sets no cookies. It uses no analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts. There is no contact form and no booking tool. The Inquire links are ordinary email links: they open your own email program, and nothing is sent until you send the message.
What stays in your browser
After you submit the form, your browser keeps the address in this site’s local storage, under the name
gate_email. The form uses it to fill in the address and to skip the question the next time.
While it is stored, later downloads in that browser go straight through, and each one is recorded with the
same address and the new file name. The stored copy stays on your device. You can remove it by clearing
this site’s data in your browser settings.
Map backgrounds come from a third party
The interactive maps (in the Study Library, on the Case Studies page, and on the map pages they open)
load topographic map tiles from Esri at server.arcgisonline.com, and satellite tiles from the
same host when you switch that background on. Your browser requests the tiles directly from Esri, so Esri
receives the usual details of a web request, such as your IP address. Daniel Du does not receive them.
The two interactive map files for 154 Windermere Avenue load nothing from outside the site until you switch
a background on. Satellite imagery comes from server.arcgisonline.com, and the Esri Canada
topographic map comes from tiles.arcgis.com. Fonts, images, and scripts on the rest of the site
are served from the site itself.
Hosting
The pages, images, and downloads are served by GitHub Pages
(d-anieldu.github.io). GitHub handles those requests under its own privacy statement.
Removing your address
To have your address and its download records removed, email danieljzdu@gmail.com and say which address you used.
