Site Constraints
Is the site in a floodplain, regulated area, ravine or heritage area?
We check 11 City of Toronto and TRCA map layers around the site — flood, conservation authority regulation, natural and cultural heritage, and infrastructure — and report one status per layer.
Where it works
Site Constraints covers the City of Toronto and the area of the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) only, both in Ontario. TRCA's area reaches beyond the city line into neighbouring municipalities; the City's layers apply inside Toronto. An address outside both gets a message saying so, not a result.
How it works
We ask 11 public map layers whether the site is inside them: TRCA's regulatory floodline and regulated area, and the City's ravine by-law, environmentally significant areas, natural heritage system, wetlands, Greenbelt, heritage register, heritage districts, basement-flooding study areas and hydro corridors. Each layer gets one status: inside, nearby (with the distance, up to 500 m), clear, or not covered here. Distances are measured from the building outline where the map has one, otherwise from a 10 m circle around the address.
