Demographics

Who lives and works around the site, and what can they afford?

People, households, housing, rents, income, jobs and commuting within 1, 3 and 5 km and a 10-minute walk and drive of a Toronto or other Ontario site, set against the municipality, the metro area and the province. Download a 4-page summary or the full report.

Where it works

Demographics covers Ontario only: the 2021 Census figures, Statistics Canada's population estimates and the Ontario Ministry of Finance's projections are Ontario's, and CMHC's rental market and housing construction data are loaded for the Toronto metro area.

How it works

The report draws five trade areas around the site: 1, 3 and 5 km circles, and a 10-minute walk and a 10-minute drive worked out on the real street network. Census figures come from Statistics Canada's smallest areas with full census detail; where one straddles a trade area's edge, we split it in proportion to where its population lives, using 2021 city-block counts. Each trade area is set against the municipality, the metro area and Ontario.
